The New Moon Partial Solar Eclipse is exact this day at 12:53pm PDT. This is the second New Moon in Virgo, as the last lunar cycle that ends with this eclipse was also in the sign of healing, organization, and integration. Two New Moons in a row in the same sign is a boon to us; it allows a double opportunity to dig into a single archetype, and increase the benefit of what the sign has to offer. Virgo is ruled by both Mercury and Chiron, so the energy of organization, attention to daily routine, the health and healing of the body, and a profound access to the feminine principle, as this is a feminine sign.

Every sign’s avatar is related to its origin story. Aries is a ram, Leo and Lion. The scales of balance make sense for Libra. But Virgo the virgin is an elusive image, and most people are confused when they try and grok what exactly this means. If each sign has a singular archetypal power, what does virginity have to do all of that organization, healing, and integration that this sign invented. And of course, in a patriarchal society that invented this ridiculous, controlling notion of virginity as sacred, but for whom? Like so many made up social constructs, this idea that a woman’s virginity was to be protected at all costs for the service of men is not at all what this virgin is all about.

Let’s start with Virgo, who invented complex systems that result in a body that functions. In fact, this is a lovely meld of Mercury and Chiron as Mercury oversees the various systems needed, and Chiron offers the mystery of birth, the moment when we enter the Merkabah that is the density of light we call the body. This profound miracle of being able to create life is the gift of the feminine in a very literal way. Now take that enormous creative capacity and understand that the Virgin with a capital V is the embodiment of this power, but held in a sacred way. She does not create a child, but rather generates tremendous healing in the form of the Goddess. Now that’s a powerful Virgin, and that energy is offered to us this year not once, but twice. Because we need it.

This New Moon is a partial Solar eclipse, so it’s perhaps less powerful than a total eclipse, but not much, and not in a way that we need to consider. But we do have to take stock of the degree of this one because it’s at the 30th degree, the anaretic point where the consciousness is embodying the wisdom of all the 29 degrees the precede it. In this way, we are truly communing with the Goddess in this eclipse, whatever that might mean for you, and setting intentions from a place of mastery.

There is seriousness and inspiration available in this eclipse by virtue of an Opposition to both Saturn and Neptune, though they are both in different signs at the moment. Saturn on the other side of the cosmos is back in Pisces, so we may be reviewing lessons from last year into this past May. Saturn in this sign that Neptune rules, so directly connected to the unconscious and Neptune always reflects that realm, he invented it. These Oppositions share similar threads of uncertainty and problems with moving forward, including because of fears connected to the uncertainty of the current landscape in the world at the moment. Jupiter is loosely Trining the North Node, so the power of expansion and manifestation is ushering us forward whether we are ready or not, so be clear with what you ask for.

Those Oppositions are just one way this eclipse taps directly into the Grand Sextile that is reflecting all of the revolutionary changes we are juggling. A Trine with Pluto allows us to align with the slow, foundational transformations, and Uranus adds the connection to sudden change, and the instability of when things happen faster than we can acclimate what’s coming at us. Grand Trines are vortexes of manifestation energy, and this eclipse has plenty of that. It also dials us directly into the mechanism of change that’s driving us, and when you add the Opposition above to this Grand Trine, you get a Kite Formation. Kites fly. We must set personal intentions, of course, but if they don’t take into consideration the role you want to play in the radical reshaping we are in, the available momentum may pass you by, or trample you.

Mars is still Opposing Chiron, so we’re exploring how to embody our healed consciousness more fully, and Venus moving into Virgo adds a healing heart to the mix. That said, Venus is Inconjuncting Pluto in this lunation, which means that even though we are setting intentions to move forward, we have also released a lot in the Full Moon eclipse behind us. Our emotional body is capable of leaving behind some previously hidden fears and inhibitions, even as we face forward. Venus will also Square Uranus, so there are shakeups, surprises, and sudden impulses that may impact how you approach the lunar cycle ahead. This Square is unstable, of course, but it also has the hallmark of freedom and rebellion, so if you need to shoot your shot, that’s in there too.

Now, a nod to the question of whether to use eclipse energy the same way you might a typical New Moon. Classic astrology advises against it, urging us to step back and simply let the eclipse do its work. I understand that intellectually, but if you’ve been following me, you know I tend to set aside principles that don’t resonate. To me, this caution feels like a remnant of the superstitious days when eclipses terrified people, and astrologers warned to steer clear. But we’re in a new age, and a new age calls for a new astrology. While others may disagree, I’ll be working with this New Moon as I would any other, with the added appreciation of the wildly amplified energy it brings. Join me if that feels right, and honor whatever tradition best serves you.

This eclipse portal has been nothing short of extraordinary, and this New Moon at the very edge of Virgo asks us to bring the wisdom of everything we’ve moved through into a single, potent moment of intention. The Goddess energy of Virgo offers us clarity, healing, and a sacred vision of how we want to serve, not just ourselves but the collective reshaping we are part of. Set your intentions from this place of mastery, and allow yourself to trust the momentum of change that is carrying us forward.

This is not just a new beginning, it’s a turning point, and the more you align with the healing power of Virgo, the more gracefully you’ll fly with the Kite that is already flying us into the future. Tomorrow is the Equinox, when the Sun pauses in perfect balance between light and dark, and this moment of harmony joins the New Moon eclipse to guide us into a future shaped by clarity, healing, and renewal. Have at it!
