For once, my hyperbole is something I will not have to check. The Full Moon in Taurus is exact at 1:26pm PST, and this is the most epic Full Moon of the year, and in some ways beyond that. And when I get done talking about what the outer planets are doing in this Full Moon, and then next year, I think you will agree. We start of course with the Sun. In Scorpio, we are ruled by Pluto, and Pluto brings death and rebirth with him wherever he goes. We are in the season of change, and the entire passage is ruled by this planet of slow and deep transformation.
The Moon is in Taurus, where we know the joys of being alive and in a body as the most pleasurable aspect of being here on Earth. The Sun is ruled by Pluto, and the Moon gets her marching orders from Venus, so we must start with the notion that anything that is in fact dying a death right now is for the purpose of bringing more love. Into our hearts, and ipso facto, into the world at large. It is the Moon’s exact Conjunction with Uranus, the Great Awakener, that packs the punch of fast and revolutionary change that this time is also presenting us with. It’s all happening at breakneck speed, with ridiculous amounts of sudden and unexpected material rising up. This is happening in the outside world, of course, but it’s also happening for each one of us at the individual level.
Remember Mars and Uranus coming together by Conjunction back in mid-July? That was a big activation of sudden change (the news in the US that week was just nuts), and this Full Moon is at that activation point. Mars is now in his retrograde shadow in Leo, and he is slowing down considerably, and will turn around in two weeks. So, not only do we have to look back a few months, we also need to understand that it will take us about six more months or so to wind our way through the changes that are happening now. Mars is holding an easy opposition with the Nodes in this Full Moon. When a planet touches the Nodes, we are all impacted in the same way. This Full Moon, and Mars’s retrograde cycle initiates some very very (hyperbole appropriate) big changes for us all, both collectively and personally, that usher us into the future, that will take some months to unfold.
But truly, it’s all about Pluto, and the other outer planets. When Pluto dropped back into Capricorn (earth) on September 2nd, he established a Grand Sextile with Neptune in Pisces (water), and Uranus in Taurus (earth). This pattern allows all of the participants to work together seamlessly and powerfully. Uranus; fast change. Pluto; slow change. Neptune; ideologies and beliefs. In earth and water signs, we are building bricks for the future. Next year, they all change signs and move into air and fire, with the planet of ideologies and spiritual beliefs in Aries, the sign of war. Next year is going to bring epic amounts of change that might make 2020 look like a primer. This last visit of Pluto to the anaretic degree of Capricorn also retriggers the Pluto return for the USA. The collective shadow of America is at the heart of all the tremendous transformation of this wild time. If we do not heal the wound of collective narcissism that the US invented, we won’t stand a chance. Fortunately, I believe completely in the resilience of the human race, and the arc of history unfolding leaning ever toward Good. Please try and find that for yourself, this Full Moon can help.
Part of why this is so, is that Mercury is activating two of the major triple transits of his retrograde cycle in this lunation. From the perspective of mind, thought, and perception, the impact of this Full Moon will take another six or seven weeks to process. A Square to Saturn tells us that there are some big lessons to be learned right now, and a Trine to Chiron implies that great healing is possible. The Teacher is asking us to not move too fast, and to remember that inner healing is necessary in order for us to meet the demands of what is to come.
If I boil down what is being asked of us through this Mercury setup, certainly we are all being taught that if you focus on the fear, that is what will increase, and overwhelm you. Saturn is in Pisces, the sign that connects us directly to Source. Mercury retrograding in Sagittarius, the sign of highest truth, and he is helping us learn how to do this with more Grace.
The watchword of this lunation is surrender. Radical change is inevitable. Life itself is a long series of deaths and rebirths. It may feel terrifying to do so, but this Full Moon is exactly like standing at the edge of the cliff, being forced to jump off. I was trying to come up with some comforting image around this, but I can’t quite find it. We just all have to jump and trust. Trust yourself. Trust your community. Trust the guidance that comes from your relationship to higher realms. If you are reading this, then you have already made the decision long ago to live a consciously aware life. You may now be realizing that once you step onto that path, you are bound to go where it takes you. And here we are, at the collective high point from which we are to jump. We do this together. Have at it.
