The New Moon in Aries perfects this morning at 4:51am PDT. After six lunations at 28° of their respective signs, including a solar eclipse, we are finally done. This morning’s New Moon takes place at 27° Aries, and next month it’s 25° Taurus, so we’re getting back to a more typical unfolding of New Moon progression. This New Moon lights up a fresh new start for two reasons. It marks the completion of a challenging few months, and we get to start over in a transformed and upgraded embodiment from where we were last October. I assure you that whatever you are feeling about yourself at this moment, I said what I said.
But this is also the astrological year’s official start. At the Vernal Equinox, the Sun tells us the new season has begun. But it takes the Moon coming along that truly marks the beginning of the astrological year. The world out there is on fire, but this New Moon needs to be just about the fire within us. Aries is the initiation energy, the dude that says without hesitation, “I’ll go!” already moving before he finishes that declaration, popping out into the first fire sign of Aries shouting, I Am! This lunar cycle is asking us directly, who do you want to be in this new world we are creating?
What would you do if there were no pushback? Consider that and be bold and courageous in what you intend without initial regard for others. Imagine putting yourself out there like the barely conscious Ram who is unconcerned with the impact of his choices, or a runner who sprints out of the starting position and winds up creating an early lead. Aries wants you to consider only yourself, and trust me, the world will correct you as life on life’s terms will make sure you are not overinflating the self, and the collective will only support actions that lead to service. Well, that’s not completely true as the world is filled with ill intended people for whom this is also an expansive New Moon in Aries to exploit.
This New Moon is at 27°29” of Aries; the 28th degree. The Sabian Symbol – channeled images for each of the degree points of the zodiac – for the 28th degree is, “A Large Audience Confronts The Performer Who Disappointed Its Expectations.” I have been screaming that we must all find our individual ways of actively helping the world transform toward true Unity. For me, the large, disappointed audience is each and every one on Earth holding the candle flame of our embodiment, making up the blanket of light that we share. I am reminded of the principle in homeopathy where like cures like. This New Moon is a homeopathic healing, where we add a tiny bit of personal fire to the world’s bonfire, and we let the collective healing commence.
Mars rules Aries and is in his home turf, tightly gathered starting with Neptune at 2° together with Mercury, Mars at 5° and Saturn at 7°. That’s a wallop of a stelium combining big doses of inspiration and responsibility, along with a walk and talk that is in really great alignment. The Moon, Sun, and Chiron are at the far end of Aries, but this larger group forms an Inconjunct to the South Node of the Moon, the point that holds the past. While the forward thrust of the Aries cardinal fire is a foregone conclusion at this moment, the way our bodies can be aligned with our minds is chef’s kiss. Mercury is on fire in Aries, but his long stay in Pisces has allowed for wild downloads into the depths of us that are – to whatever extent this is so for you – more mystical perceptions here in the world of form.
But the Sun and the Moon are exactly Conjunct Chiron, the Centaur who guides us through the woods of shadow. Chiron’s wisdom is about the mystery, and the sacred magic needed to make the most of what we are given. This life in a body is complicated and mysterious; none of us received the instruction manual. Mars invented the body, and in Aries we experience our embodiment as an individual flame. Mars rules this New Moon, so use the cardinal fire of this moment to start things up in a practical way, but be sure to bring your mysticism along with you.
This New Moon is being held by the Grand Sextile of change and transformation that the outer planets and Saturn have been holding since early last year. Venus, strengthened in her ruling sign, is inching toward a Conjunction with Uranus just as they both prepare to leave Taurus in just about a week, so the corner of this pattern that holds fast and unexpected change is currently alchemized by love. Pluto in Aquarius is holding court in Uranus’s home turf of Aquarius, so the foundations of the consciousness of power are churning through the old structures as we usher in the Age of Aquarius. In the middle holding the Aries matches are Neptune and Saturn. Our newly aligned walk and talk is being driven by big inspiration and a sense of responsibility more than ever in our lifetime.
It’s overwhelming because the geometry is stacked in a way that none of us have any experience with. This is one time where you benefit from letting impulse guide you, and just like the Ram who jumps across the birth canal of the Zodiac from Pisces to Aries, take the leap. The zodiac is a Hero’s Journey, and Aries is the protagonist who leaves home with no looking back and no certainty of what’s next. This aspect of Aries can give this archetype a bad rap for how much it overrides decorum with selfish action, but do not let that hold you back. Start your own fire and offer it to the world like homeopathic medicine to subdue the bonfire we are living through. Also trust that as you leap, others will be inspired to do the same. Have at it!
