The New Moon at 28° Pisces is exact at 6:23pm PDT. This closes the eclipse wormhole and ushers us into the next lunar cycle. This is the first New Moon since the personal planet parade that began in October where they are starting to spread out. Venus has leapt forward into Aries, and Mercury and Mars recently crisscrossed each other helping align our walk and talk. Mars will move on while Mercury keeps trekking backward in Pisces. This unprecedented astrological lineup has changed us all; radically so. Think back to late summer (winter down under) and notice all of the internal shifts since then. The radical breakdown in our institutional consciousness continues, but in this very special New Moon, we set intentions from what is essentially a new alignment of our four-body system of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.
The water signs connect to our emotional nature, as well as providing access to the invisible. Each is progressively deeper. In Cancer, we know feelings at an embodied level. In Scorpio, we understand the transformative power of emotional death and rebirth that keeps life in motion. Pisces is the last water sign and also the final sign of the zodiac. Here’s where the deepest water reflects our earthly oceans, and there everything about consciousness that is ultimately hidden beneath the surface.
Through Pisces, we access all the wisdom of the eleven signs that precede it, and understand that we are connected to all of life through the collective, just as the vast ocean touches every shore and encompasses the entire globe. In those deep seas, we can access other dimensions with ease, especially through dreams. But we can also dream ourselves awake when we learn to tap into the force that is always coursing through the body, animating it with life. We are all carried by the same flow, sharing the journey while also tending to life as individuals. Grace becomes available when we connect with this current each day through practices that help us feel it directly. Set intentions with this New Moon to deepen your commitment to remembering your multidimensional nature as a daily experience.
Mars and Mercury in Conjunction knits together our walk and talk. And in Pisces, you can take new insights and awareness and apply them directly to how you are attending to your full embodiment; thank you Mars in Pisces. This is part of why I have been emphasizing developing or expanding your practices, especially now while our instruments are tapped directly into the inner landscape. Mercury’s retrograde posture allows us to take the hidden material that is being reorganized in the unconscious and use it to help you learn how to live in two dimensions at the same time. More will be revealed as Mercury goes direct in a few days, and revisits some territory for the third and final time into next month.
This is also the final New Moon which perfects at 28°. The SAROS cycle of lunar activity reflects a pattern of descending degree points of New Moons. Each progressive New Moon is about a degree behind the last one. A New Moon at 19° Leo is followed by a New Moon in Virgo at 18°. Since October’s New Moon at 28° 21’ Libra through this one at 28° 21’, you can see there has been an aberration of six lunations in a row all at 28°. When we are moving fastest in the fall and winter months, it is more common to happen. So it’s not rare, but a wild synchronicity to have so much personal change crammed into these past five months. The next one is at 27°, and in May it jumps to 25°, and we catch up. We are completely transformed, body, mind, heart, and spirit, just as the outside world is in a phoenix free fall into the fire. As we rise again, we will be more able to support the world through this wild revolution because we too are transformed.
Mars is Trining Jupiter, aligning our steps with a hopeful sense that we can manifest what we desire. Mercury holds this Trine as he continues his cycle, perfecting his third and final Trine with Jupiter at the Full Moon in two weeks. This is the thread of hopeful possibility, and with Jupiter exalted in Cancer, generosity is available. Mercury and Mars in Pisces invite us to feel into the depths of our psyche and set intentions from a deeper place. In a landscape of outrageous and unexpected change, this thread of expansion, abundance, good mood, and a sense that life is worth the complexity of living continues to run through the moment. Some of you are tapping into this energy and feeling more joy than others. And even if that is not your story right now, know that this energy is available every day, though it may take a practice to slip below chaotic thinking and emotional upheaval.
The outer planets are still holding fast to the Grand Sextile that began last year, ushering in this period of revolution. Uranus is the ingredient that allows such hyperbole as he reflects lightning fast change. This New Moon is in an exact Sextile with Uranus, and so we dig in to set intentions from our deepest longings in Pisces. This productive geometry with the Great Awakener can take those intentions and add just the right amount of independence, risk taking, and the freedom needed for you to create what you desire. Everything feels risky right now, all the more reason to step up and make sure that you are living your life out loud, no matter what the outside world is doing. Think big and broad in your intentions right now; the world will course correct anything that is out of balance.
These are wild times indeed. There is nothing missing out there as much as empathy. The patriarchy rejects empathy as incompatible with masculine rule. When I started to see that this lack was not an occasional aberration but the way of the 1%, I was flabbergasted. Empathy is how we have civilization in the first place. Margaret Mead famously codified the first signs of civilization as care. A skeleton with a healed broken bone indicated a community that took risks to save a member, rather than discarding the weak. We are in a position now where if we don’t balance this out, we won’t survive for more than a generation or two.
Pisces is where forgiveness, compassion, and empathy come from, and we are all learning how to find more of that inside ourselves. Keep this in mind as you move through this powerful New Moon. Where do you need more forgiveness in your life? Is it for yourself? All forgiveness is self-forgiveness, for we are all One, another invention of Pisces. Let this New Moon be a reset of the heart. The world may continue to thrash about as old systems collapse, but compassion is the force that will carry us through the storm. Begin there. Forgive something that feels impossible. Offer empathy where it has been absent. When we choose compassion, we participate directly in the next evolution of civilization. Have at it!
