The Full Moon in Aries will be exact at 8:47pm PDT tonight, taking place at 14°08’ of Aries, with the Sun at the same degree in Libra. Aries and Libra form the relationship polarity, where Aries is the self and Libra introduces us to the other. Cardinal fire meets cardinal air in a combustible Full Moon, as cardinal energy starts things up and an Opposition forces what is emerging to engage directly, full stop. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and represents our first burst into consciousness with a shout of “I Am,” while Libra embodies the “We Are.”
The first six signs of the zodiac reflect us as individuals and how we interact with our immediate environment. Then we move to the top of the wheel, where we relate to others and the outer world in general. Libra is the first of those and introduces us to the law of reflection: as within, so without. When we move toward connecting with others, we step into the responsibility required for those connections to thrive. That begins with respecting this law that says everything you experience is a mirror of your own state of being.
You can see this clearly in relationships, where we magnetically mirror one another. Libra invented grace, and Aries enthusiasm can burn that up when it’s on fire. or fail to offer even a spark when it’s not. In this Full Moon, we are releasing excess passion in the form of impulsiveness, anger, selfish motivation, or the tendency to steamroll others to get our needs met. If your story is more about struggling to find motivation or courage to act in the face of what others project onto you, this lunation can help you light your own bonfire.
This Full Moon highlights the dance between autonomy and connection that defines the Aries/Libra axis. Aries teaches individuality, while Libra brings balance through relationship. The Full Moon exposes where we lean too far toward “me” or lose ourselves in “we.” Mars and Venus, rulers of these signs, bring the meeting of desire and attraction, action and grace. Through this reflection, we see our projections most clearly, and through the friction of relationship, we come to know ourselves more completely.
The Grand Sextile with the outer planets is still in place, so we experience this Full Moon against a backdrop of revolutionary transformation on the planet. We all need to adapt at lightning speed to avoid being overwhelmed by the chaos and intensity. We perceive such things through Mercury consciousness, and less than twelve hours before the Full Moon, Mercury moves into Scorpio, the sign that understands the death principle, that all things must die in order to be reborn. That includes how we perceive and interpret the world. Mercury’s passage through Scorpio (and a later retrograde back through this sign) signals that we are entering a new level of personal transformation, especially with our voices.
One portion of that Grand Sextile is the 60° connection between Uranus and Neptune. A Sextile is like a motor, and in this case, one piston offers awakening while the other carries spiritual inspiration. This portion of the landscape helps us navigate Uranus’s revolutionary movement by allowing our spiritual practice to guide us. No change, no matter how sudden, is made gentler than when we allow ourselves to feel guided in invisible ways. Mercury, on the other side of the solar system, hits both of them in a fork-in-the-road 150° Inconjunct, forming a very exact Finger of God, or Yod.
What the mind releases as we pass through this fiery Full Moon will be transmuted by Mercury in Scorpio’s ability to rebirth thought patterns, as this Pluto-ruled sign allows something brand new to emerge. This Yod will influence not only the rest of this lunar cycle but also the coming month as Mercury moves into Sagittarius, then retrogrades back into Scorpio to further transform how we perceive the world around us. Rather than shrinking back from change, we are being taken through a process of learning to handle greater intensity and releasing resistance that may be clogging the system.
Another incentive to surrender to the fires of this Full Moon is what Jupiter is doing now and for the rest of the month. Exalted in Cancer, Jupiter brings abundance, protection, and expansion during this year-long passage. At this Full Moon, Jupiter is loosely Trining the North Node and Saturn, helping us apply wisdom (Saturn) to changes that usher us into new territory (North Node). Jupiter also Sextiles Venus and the South Node, who just met in a karmic release of old emotional patterns, freeing us to manifest through a clearer instrument.
At the end of this month, just after the New Moon in Libra, there will be a stunning Grand Water Trine of manifestation power with Jupiter, Saturn, and the North Node, while Mercury and Mars Conjunct in Scorpio at just the right degree form a vortex of creative energy. What we release now in consciousness will lighten the load going forward, allowing us to move faster and more gracefully into an uncertain future, and pass through an opportunity to order up what you want the universe to bring you, and have it delivered.
Aries is a fire sign, so if you do any sort of ritual with lunations, include some literal fire to match the element. In your reflections, consider whether you have too much or too little fire, and where you fall on that spectrum. Call in more or less of it to find Libra’s pure balance and harmony. That perfection is archetypal and must include imperfection too, rather than avoiding it or burning it down.
Next, consider your relationships – all of them. How could you show up more authentically if you called in some of Aries’ courage, or allowed your own fire to dim enough to clearly see who you are relating with? But if you really want to cook with gas, bring into your ritual the intention to see the world itself as your beloved first, letting every relationship reflect that divine connection. The amount of grace that can flow when you are in that posture may be more than you can imagine. Have at it.
