The Full Moon in Gemini is exact at 3:13pm PST this afternoon. This is a mutable Full Moon because both the Sun and Moon are in mutable signs, 13° Sagittarius and 13° Gemini. There are two other mutable signs, Virgo and Pisces. Mutable means the flexibility needed to morph from one state to another with ease. In my language of consciousness unfolding, when mutable signs rule the moment, things you thought could never be dislodged from your psyche, can finally be transformed.
The Sagittarius Sun burns with our sense of truth, both the personal beliefs we hold as well as larger Truths with a capital T. Now, we understand that truth is ultimately subjective. But the beauty of truth is not in the arrival at some codified analysis. It’s in the constant seeking, where we must be mutable with our beliefs. Like science, we know what’s true until we learn more, and this is that moment of discovery for us at the personal level of thought and perception.
Gemini holds the mind, perceptions, language, and the desire to connect with others through the sharing of ideas. The shadow of Gemini is being overwhelmed by fear, doubt, and anxious thoughts. Sag invented truth/Truth, and with the Sun shining the light of consciousness on what is fundamentally true for ourselves, this Moon can help us benefit from the plasticity of the brain. It is the one thing about us that we can change. And so we come to the most powerful principle being reflected by this Full Moon. Change your thoughts to change your life. This is done at the level of conscious thought, but at the same time, this lunar cycle is ruled by Pluto, so it’s transforming our thinking from the inside out as well.
Mercury is the last of the personal planets to move through Scorpio because of his retrograde here. He rules this Full Moon, but in Pluto’s ruling sign, this moment is also sponsored by The Lord of the Underworld. The mutable energy in Gemini is about allowing our thought patterns to be flexible, and Mercury in Scorpio adds the death/rebirth level of transformation. The only way to have a different life is to change the narrator that writes the script of the perception you are experiencing. Accomplishing this takes an enormous amount of discipline, more than many people are willing to do. This Full Moon is a rare moment when a big chunk of that work is being done for us.
The Gemini Moon may disperse lots of distracted thoughts, like so much dust rising out of the pile you just swept up. This may be the energetic experience you have tonight and tomorrow, but as you are on a path of healing and self-investigation, trust that the unconscious mechanism of change and healing are very activated. Not just from Mercury in Scorpio, but the mascot of shadow work herself. Black Moon Lilith is just a few degrees away, keeping the Grand Water Trine in place. She shows you what you’re repressing and resisting, so Mercury can hold the black needle, and rearrange the neurons of your perception.
Precision counts. Each participant in the Mutable Cross is exactly at 13°. The Sun and Moon are forming an X with the Nodes of the Moon, who are in the other two mutable signs of Virgo and Pisces, and also exactly at 13°. Precision breeds intensity, and the Nodes hold the track that all of us are on at the same time, sharing the journey from the past into the future. This tells a story that all of us, and I mean all, are going to find ourselves on a very different track when this lunar cycle is done compared to when we started two weeks ago. That New Moon promised deep change and transformation, and here we are at the moment were we find out the thing that needs to change most. And that is how we are choosing to perceive the world around us.
Mercury is holding an exact (again with the precision) Inconjunct to Chiron, doubling down on the capacity for this lunar cycle to help people drop wounds related to your voice. Black Moon Lilith is in an exact (yes, exact) Opposition with Uranus in Taurus. The manhole cover that keeps our underground sewage at bay, like shadowy negative paradigms of perception, has been blown away by a flash of dynamite. This longer lasting transit being exact in this lunation further emphasizes the mechanism of release from deep in our unconscious, even below our shadow. The backdrop is perfectly set, and the Full Moon does the work.
In my teaching I often say things like, “I can’t help you with your joyful expansion, that does not need any help from me. But I can help you see where you are saying no to life in an unconscious way, so that you might know joy more abundantly.” Dreams are like this; they show us right where we are resisting things in the unconscious. My shadow classes teach about how to do this, and even an astrology session is going to focus more on what you have to let go of, because I trust that your magnificence is what will rise up when you let go of fear.
This Full Moon follows this principle completely. The Sagittarius Sun ruled by Jupiter is lighting up joy, expansion, and possibility. One of the Gemini twins has bad intentions and has tied and gagged the other, robbing us of our full voice. There will likely be lots of distractions today, because our thoughts will be having a party thrown by the naughty twin. Use your Full Moon process to take you inside, where the chatter is dim. Find the twin who has your thoughts of hope, expansion, abundance, and possibility, and set them free. Because the Moon is in an air sign, you can actually use the intellect to get to the places below, so begin with a mind dump on paper if it’s noisy up there, and then let your practice do its thing. Have at it.
