The New Moon in Scorpio is exact at 28°, and perfects at 10:47pm PST, so the calendar day is Thursday for those further east, including my friends down under. I have run out of hyperbole like the boy who cried wolf, but this is the most extraordinary New Moon, maybe ever. Well, that’s hyperbole of course, but it’s a whopper, and it fits the ongoing narrative of wild amounts of change and transformation forcing us to shape shift and accelerate our need to morph with the times. With this New Moon, we are going to a deep place in our unconscious, setting intentions from raw layers of passion and truth that your shadow work may have only recently illuminated.

If you have been holding onto secrets or have been unwilling to surrender to what is bubbling up from your unconscious, this New Moon is going to rock your world. Even those of us who are completely comfortable in the messiness of shadow work will be rattled by a New Moon in an exact Opposition with Uranus, which is like throwing dynamite into the abyss. This is certain to shake things up enormously, both for us personally and on the world stage.

Scorpio relates to the Underworld and the things we feel we must keep secret. Black Moon Lilith is a shadow point that does the same thing, only with the disowned material we desperately try to push below the surface, mostly to hide it from ourselves. When Mercury goes retrograde, the planet of our perceptions is in the unconscious too, and in Scorpio we are treated to easy access to the deep realms below. They are all at the same degree point (BML at the 27th degree), so the focal point of this lunation has dug a hole to China. It blows open our deep unconscious with that disruptive Uranus Opposition. Add a Sextile to the ruler of this New Moon, Pluto, and the Lord of the Underworld himself is presiding over the entire proceedings.

This alignment is akin to moments I like to call a “psychic surgery.” I do not use that phrase randomly, so when I do it must involve Pluto, Scorpio, or both. The Opposition to Uranus is like the surgeon’s scalpel, ripping into us quite suddenly. Pluto in Sextile then lays our hidden spaces bare, and the changes we allow ourselves to move through this lunar cycle are promised to be completely transformative. Pluto and Uranus are Trining each other, so both fast and slow change are turned on full blast. This Trine lasts two years, all this year and next as well. Since this is the New Moon ruled by Pluto, this lunar cycle is borrowing that transformative energy, and we can tap into it personally.

This is a New Moon, so we usually focus on what we wish to create anew. But we are swimming in a lot of death energy, so big endings may be part of this lunar cycle, particularly at the Full Moon in Gemini in two weeks. The New Moon is also Trining Neptune and Saturn, who have just slipped back into the deep waters of Pisces. The Trine to Neptune offers the anesthetic we will need, and the Saturn Trine ensures that we know exactly what patterns and resentments need to go. With Venus at 16° Scorpio, she Trines the North Node at 15° Pisces. Our hearts want us to let go of the branch we are holding tightly to and surrender to the tumultuous waters of our deepest feelings. The river will carry you where you wish to go, but you have to let go.

Jupiter is exalted in Cancer and is holding up his end of the Grand Water Trine that this New Moon is directly participating in. The planet that reflects our capacity to manifest our desires went retrograde just before the New Moon behind us, so we can access this beneficial energy from the inside of our psyche. Because he has been moving more slowly as he stationed, he has been holding ground and extending the creative power of this ongoing Trine. This is also dialed into the New Moon and generates the thread of hope we can grab while keeping our head above water in the emotional flood.

But Jupiter and Chiron are Squaring, which offers the promise of greater abundance if you can allow the wounds of unworthiness, fears of an uncertain future, and old patterns of lack and limitation to be healed. That process will generate even deeper emotionality. Let this lunar cycle strip some of that wounded inhibition away and reveal the more integrated version of you that is ready to come out and play.

I am preparing for both my webinar this Sunday on the astrology of the USA and my forecast for next year, and I am reminded of how many times I am asked by followers on social media, “when’s it gonna end.” It is not going to end, and I am always shocked when I am asked. If you look out at the world right now, why would anyone expect that this passage of great pain and transformation would end any time soon? If it is happening out there, it is happening inside all of us too. These are the wars we fight with ourselves, and the confrontation with outside energy that cuts down with every attempt we make to expand, or tells us we don’t have the right to exist.

It is not ending because life does not stop, it evolves. We must evolve right along with it. We cannot always see our progress, but others can. Try not to measure your success by looking at the top of the mountain and thinking you are not even close. Pay attention to each step along the way, and trust that even the greatest losses make room for the new consciousness we are birthing. Trust the process, keep your heart open, and let this cycle show you what wants to emerge. There are so many tears right now, the Earth herself is weeping and many of us are right along with her. Let your tears be part of the healing, and know you are moving with the world, not against it. Have at it!
