This New Moon is crazy. If you have been following the astrology, you may know that all of the outer planets and Saturn are at very early degrees of the signs they have moved into. This New Moon is exact at 10:06 PM PDT, at 0° of Virgo. That means it’s contacting all of the outers and Saturn. It’s forming a Yod or a Finger of God, so intentions we set now have the winds of fate behind them. Not to put any pressure on, but what we focus on now will set us up to move through eclipse season with a little bit more healing purpose. Besides whatever personal intentions that are right for you at this moment in your life, on a bigger level this healing New Moon ruled by Mercury and Chiron, is the starting point of the collective journey we are on.
We’ve all just finished with Munchkin Land, where we found ourselves in strange territory indeed as this year began, so we have a good sense that we’re not in Kansas anymore. But we’ve just started the trek down the yellow brick road and at the moment we are all alone, and the blank landscape of an unstable future has us all feeling a little unhinged. While I can’t say that this New Moon is actually stable (cuz it’s not), it is driven by Virgo’s sense of process and integration, as well as the healing potential in this sign, thank you Chiron.
The Sun will move into Virgo around noon PDT, and the Moon will follow a few hours later. The moment of their exact meeting is 10:06 PM PDT tonight. The New Moon perfects late Friday night in the Americas, early Saturday in Europe and Africa, and midday Saturday in Australia. Virgo is where we focus on putting things in their proper place both externally and internally. This is a very life on life’s terms moment, and while the outside world seems chaotic and in fact dangerous, it is the Virgo energy that keeps the machinery running. And by machinery, I mean your psyche and soul on a journey to find its purpose (join me for my class this Sunday on the Nodes of the Moon and finding purpose through astrology: https://michaellennox.com/classes/nodes-moon/). Forgive my little shameless plug.
There’s a Sextile right now between Saturn and Neptune in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius. The geometry is exact, making the energy stronger and more focused, just like Virgo loves it. Saturn and Neptune are dancing together all year, blending responsibility with the awareness that we are connected to energies far greater than ourselves. Pluto in Aquarius brings the deep change required to dismantle the old world. We are charged with building a brand-new consciousness of Unity, where all people are cared for. This is the Age of Aquarius in action, and the Earth is in a fierce extinction grab, where the outdated consciousness of separation is trying to maintain its dominance. It will fail. A new world is already rising, though many of us won’t live to see it, and the current instability is simply the turbulence of profound transformation.
The New Moon is forming an Inconjunct to both, creating a pattern known as a Yod, or a Finger of God/Fate. The motor of a Yod is in the Sextile, so responsibility and faith in things unseen is working productively with the agent of death and rebirth. The pointy end, in this case the New Moon itself, lets us know that what we gather and focus on now can take you into very new territory down the line. The promise of the setup is this: As you courageously take one step forward, the winds of fate will help you get further than you imagined possible. The intentions we set now count, so choose wisely.
Disruption is the territory of Uranus, the Great Awakener. At 1° of Gemini, our perceptions are challenged by the chaos and sudden change, and the Square between the Virgo New Moon and Uranus tells us that the volatility isn’t going anywhere, and this lunar cycle will be rich with more unsettling things that come out of nowhere. And this is the beginning of eclipse season. This New Moon is not an eclipse, but it kicks off a lunar cycle that include an eclipse as it’s Full Moon, and the next New Moon is also an eclipse. If you are familiar with the concept of the wormhole, you know that eclipse season is one of enormous change, and fated transformation. Personally, I consider the wormhole – and most disruptive energy – as the time between eclipses. But truly, it starts now with this New Moon. Virgo does not promise an absence of chaos, but it does set us up for tremendous resilience, and the ability to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again.
Now for a little good news. Jupiter and Venus are still in Cancer, fresh off of their expansive Conjunction on August 11th. Love and abundance are still having a party over in the sign of Jupiter’s exaltation. They are loosely Trining the North Node of the Moon, so there is a thread of hope and possibility for the future. This is the vibe of the moment: The outers are very active, and reflecting all of the unstable change that’s going on. Saturn is what is making the whole episode feel like a big lesson personally. But over on the side, our hearts may be feeling a glimmer of hope, and if you can’t tap into that in this moment, trust me it’s there, but you may have to quiet the overactive mind to feel that optimism.
Everyone is involved in this lunation, so we can look to Mercury and Mars and see how our walk and talk are currently in alignment. Mars is not so happy in Libra, but he still reflects our goals, projects, and the things we set our body in motion to accomplish. A Sextile with Mercury in Leo is the productive geometry that has our mind and body working well together. Mercury is just coming out of an Opposition with Pluto, and Mars has finished a Trine with the Lord of the Underworld. These transits support this intention-setting moment, helping us align mind and body with the deep change we’re navigating. Even if the mind feels like it’s exploding, the body is ready to keep moving us into an uncertain future.
Not to leave anyone out, Venus is standing across from Pluto in a loose Opposition that will perfect in four days. She moves into Leo on Monday morning, and by Tuesday this confrontation between love and change will be exact. Our emotional body is about to catch up with the intensity of the moment, so while the New Moon holds Venus in tender Cancer, the shift into Leo will bring louder, more external expressions of feeling.
Once Venus crosses into Leo, she will begin connecting with all of the outer planets, including that powerful Opposition to Pluto. This sets up the next stretch of days to be emotionally complex and transformative. At the same time, a loose Trine between the Virgo New Moon and Chiron in Aries adds an element of healing, reminding us that even as the emotional waves rise, there is support for integration and repair.
So yes, this New Moon in Virgo is crazy, but it is also holy ground. The geometry is exact, the winds of fate are strong, and the unpredictability we are living through is simply the price of birthing something brand new. Set intentions that honor both your personal healing and the collective journey we are all on. Trust the process, lean into resilience, and let Virgo’s devotion to integration guide you. The world may feel like it’s coming apart, but remember, it’s also coming together in ways we can’t yet see. Plant your seeds with faith. The future is already rising.
