Welcome to what a lot of astrologers are referring to as a cosmic reset; and indeed, there are ways to consider this the most important New Moon we’ve moved through in our lifetime. The New Moon Total Solar Eclipse hits tonight at 11:42pm PST, to tonight here on the west coast of North America, and tomorrow for those points east. The planets have been squeezing us through some wildly powerful changes over the past two years. At the end of December, the final Square between Saturn the Teacher and Uranus the Awakener comes to a close, and that very unstable marker of tremendous change will begin to pass into our rear-view mirror. And then, the planets will be essentially quiet for two years, and we move through a period where transits to the Nodes take over, and how we move forward will change. Be sure to look out for my Astrology Forecast for 2022 to understand more fully what I mean by this, but the growth we have each risen up to in these past two years is going to be key with regard to how gracefully we meet the world in the coming few years. So, when astrologers say this moment is a cosmic reset, we mean it.

Sagittarius is the mansion where we first come into contact with something we call the “truth.” I put that word in quotes because of course, this notion of truth is also the root of all conflict on the planet. For millennia, the human race has been murdering each other in the spirit of what some refer to as the truth. But, in fact, there is only one thing happening here, and that is existence itself. We are all One in that existence, and at the heart of the Sagittarius archetype is this one, fundamental Truth with a capital T. We must all find our internal compass, the ideas about life in a body that help us as individuals grapple with a brutal world. And at the same time, we must learn how to respect the views of others, even those whose beliefs we do not share. This principle is at the core of this eclipse.

Let’s talk about the background setup of this eclipse, because it tells a pretty profound story. First and foremost, is a very tight 150-degree angle between the Sun and the Moon at 12-degrees of Sagittarius, and Uranus, holding the same degree in the sign of Taurus. This geometry is called the Great Eliminator angle, and so as part of this powerful resetting moment, the lightning flash planet capable of generating sudden and unexpected events and inspiration, helping us change directions in an instant. This angle is usually associated with letting things go that no longer serve you, and so built into this reset, we also have the opportunity to release any heavy baggage that is slowing you down. Of course, what you release at this time may be snatched right out of your grasp, but trust that when Uranus is in the house, whatever unexpected stuff that gets kicked up is designed to wake you up to a higher level of consciousness.

The image I get for this eclipse is the booster of a rocket that contains a huge amount of fuel. At a certain point, it explodes with a burst of combustion designed to propel us powerfully forward; and then just drops off and falls away. We get to ascend higher and faster toward our desired aims with the extra jolt of energy, and the release of that which is no longer necessary. Sagittarius energy is optimistic and through this archetype, we get excited about the journey through life. We can take on the world in this mansion, and the world we must take on is changing and morphing right before our very eyes. This is the New Moon where we must set personal intentions that are powerful enough to keep up with the demands of a world that needs us all to be bringing our best, no matter what. This is the New Moon to set intentions for more of, well, everything you want more of.

Another thing that is happening concomitant to this eclipse, and therefore intrinsically bound into it, is Venus preparing to turn around and go retrograde in just about two weeks’ time. She is spending this entire month at a very slow pace, and hanging around with her buddy, Pluto, the Lord of the Underworld. Think Persephone and Hades here, where we are actually excited about the depths to which our love and intimacy experience can take us. Venus in Capricorn is going to help us all adjust the very structures through which we give and receive love, and so the next few months are going to feature some really important changes at the personal level.

If the first few paragraphs of this article frighten you at all, remember that love is how we move through life with Grace. Venus may take us through some painful shifts and turns over the next months, but the net result is more love, and who can’t benefit from that? When setting intentions during this powerful eclipse, be sure to dial into what your desires for intimacy and love (money too, that’s a Venus construct as well). Though these things are not necessarily Sagittarius inventions, Venus is over on the side right now making sure that every single one of us is working to bring as much love as we can muster to everything we do. If anything about your heart is blocking your good right now, this eclipse, the intentions we set, and Venus’s mechanizations over the next few months will help open things up by diving into a little shadow work in matters of the heart.

Where the Nodes are also tells us where the eclipses will be, for the Nodes are the angels of energy that generate eclipses in the first place. For the past year and a half, we have been in a masterclass of the Gemini/Sagittarius polarity, where we learn about truth, the ideas on which we base our lives, and the demand to rise up to higher levels of our awareness of the spiritual path (Sag invented that). We had 18-months to perfect our wisdom in this polarity, and this is the final moment; like the exam that tells us whether we are ready to move on to the next level of our development. Next year, we move into Scorpio (South Node, past) and Taurus (North Node, future) where we get to work on whether we choose Love (Taurus) or death (Scorpio). We have more work to do, and I trust that you are up to it. Use this intention setting moment to commit to doing your part to lift the vibration as we birth this New Earth. The work is mighty, but it is why we came.
