The Total Lunar Eclipse Full Moon in Pisces hits this morning, exact at 11:08am PDT. Every lunar eclipse is also a Full Moon. We treat it like any other Full Moon, a moment to open the unconscious and let go of any and all material that is ready to be released. Because it is an eclipse, the moment is fated and transformational. The releases are greater, the impact felt more deeply. This time on the planet is filled with radical changes, profound losses, and tremendous uncertainty. Our future is unknown and unknowable, even though we are creating it all minute by minute. We are still standing on the unstable foundation of an old world that has already fallen away. We are a little stuck in the old paradigm while the new one wants our attention.
Truly, we cannot move powerfully forward unless we drop some weight. A Full Moon eclipse always reminds me of the way a rocket must drop its heavy fuel tank that got it off the ground. To truly fly higher into space, as the rocket is designed to do, we must also drop the fuel tank we used to rely on to move through past times, but more is needed in a world that is in revolution. The demand to move more rapidly in an accelerating landscape is upon us, and we will all benefit from dropping the weight vest we have been carrying around.
This is a South Node eclipse season, so named because the Virgo Sun is close to the South Node, also in Virgo. Even though the Pisces Moon is near the North Node of forward movement, we declare that the entire eclipse season is focused more on letting go of the past than on the future we want to create. It is the Sun’s conscious awareness lining up with either the past (South Node) or the future (North Node) that makes the season one or the other. A South Node eclipse aligns really well with the principle of every Full Moon, so no adjustment is needed when it comes to the release mechanism of this cycle. We are digging even deeper into the unconscious, thanks to the Pisces Moon allowing unimpeded access to the realms below. This Full Moon eclipse goes deep.
The outer planets and Saturn are all retrograde, so the revolution has been internalized and slowed down for a few months, though we will not really be able to distinguish this sensation very strongly. That will help this eclipse season do its deep work, as there is an energetic separation between us walking through life day to day in our bodies, and the wild way the earth is transforming. My hope is that this turns into greater activation for change in the outside world. But this is not a moment to press on, it is a moment to stop what you are doing, and lay down for a little transformational process. We will see what wants to be said in the New Moon up ahead that is also a South Node eclipse.
The Virgo Sun has us focused on daily life, routines and habits, health and wellness, and the very notion that when change comes, we must integrate new material into our embodiment. Virgo kind of invented that. Virgo is very much about the body, and Pisces is where Spirit is dialed into the Zodiac. Pisces rules the unconscious, which includes everything that is directly untouchable and unknowable, including creative inspiration, spiritual connection, and an awareness of the collective through which we are all One. We drop things that scatter our attention with too much data and allow for things to fall away so that we might have an even deeper connection to Spirit.
Mercury is 5° from the Sun, so our perceptions are sharp and clear, and we are moving toward their Superior Conjunction in a few days. We are in an alignment of thinking and being, where the Sun is our center, and our thoughts narrate our experience from essentially the same place. On the Pisces side, while not close enough to be Conjunct, the fact that Saturn has dropped back into Pisces means the Teacher is once again demanding that we put our spiritual practice in front of us, leading our choices and behaviors in the months to come, and this eclipse helps directly with that.
The Grand Sextile of the outer planets is fully in place in this eclipse, not quite exact, but all at 1° of the signs they are in. Because they are all retrograde now, the experience of the world in revolution can be held internally. This will also help us release things at the personal level that are designed to help us move through a world shifting on a dime. Mars is in an Opposition with Chiron that will be in place for both eclipses, so the body is tussling with letting wounds go. This is uncomfortable but beneficial, as all wounds are held in the body till we are ready to let them go. This eclipse is designed to do that.
There are two Easy Oppositions to mention. Any Opposition is a tension we have to grapple with. When a planet or point divides that 180° into two more manageable parts, it is like having extra help with whatever tension is being expressed. Jupiter in Cancer is Sextiling the Sun, North Node, and Mercury, so the manifestation potential is helping us truly know the benefit and expansive possibilities associated with letting this eclipse have its way with you. And that process is supported by a Sextile to the Sun from Black Moon Lilith, a shadow point that lets us dive into the unconscious and engage with thoughtforms that are scary, taboo, and at the present moment, unintegrated. The positive geometry indicates more comfort with those dark places than is typical, and this is also going to take this eclipse to deep places in our psyche, and help us let some shit go.
Virgo is also connected with the things we know we must do and accomplish each day, and Pisces holds the energy of denial. With Saturn in Pisces, this eclipse has a definite demand to see the world as it really is, soften our view, and release what no longer belongs. Let Virgo steer your practical devotion while Pisces keeps you in prayer, one small, embodied step at a time. Name the weight you are done carrying, thank it, and set it down. I myself am working to approach every single little act I engage in (Virgo) with prayer (Pisces). Every act. So, tidy your altar, pour fresh water, and consider what you may be avoiding. Be willing to look at and release things you might normally protect yourself from. Take out the scary bit, say thank you to it, set it down, and spread your wings and prepare to fly with the New Moon eclipse in two weeks. Have at it.
