The Full Moon in Aries hits this morning at 9:47am PDT. The Sun is in Libra, but remember we are in a lunar cycle kicked off by a New Moon in Virgo. Virgo invented process and integration, so the essence of the cycle is clarity, healing, and the principles of deconstruction and reconstruction, sometimes both of those at the same time. But we’re in the Libra mansion now, and we’ve shifted our conscious awareness from looking inward to tinker with our integration, to looking outward at life as a perfectly balanced mirror of your consciousness itself. I don’t mean the experience
feels balanced. I’m telling you that it is balanced. Everything you perceive reflects how you are in the world; it’s a law, it can’t be true only when it’s convenient. All of it is a reflection, and absolutely nothing can be left out. This is the agreement between Virgo and Libra.
In Libra our conscious awareness is focused on love, relationships, balance and harmony as a principle, fairness, ease with finances, and of course this law represented by the scales. It can be very confronting to take radical responsibility for everything that happens as you walk through life. Aries certainly doesn’t want that; it wants to ask for forgiveness later (maybe) rather than permission now. When you go to the mirror and ask, “mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” rest assured the Aries Moon is not going to hold anything back. And Full Moons are about releasing things from the unconscious, and this one has the fires of change pulling Persephone into the Underworld.
The Aries Moon and Neptune are Conjunct in a tight orb of less than 1°. That’s very close, so Neptune’s rulership of the unconscious is supporting the idea of going into the deep recesses of our psyche to cauterize any old wounds that have recently been ripped out of your unconscious. There’s an organicity to wounded patterns; they’re made of energy but they root into our biology. When something old is removed, tendrils of attachment stay behind, and it may take a long while to pick off all the detritus. Saturn is just within the distance to make a difference, which raises the seriousness and importance of this Full Moon and how we approach it. With seriousness and fire in your belly is how.
Pluto and Uranus are in on the lunation directly. The Sun is at 3° of Libra and Pluto is at the same degree in Aquarius, and Uranus is at 5° Gemini. This is an almost exact Grand Air Trine with both agents of change in the solar system. Pluto to go deep, all the way down to excavating a new foundation. And Uranus for the occasional dynamite blast needed to clear away the old stuff that takes more sudden power to release. So we are consciously aware of just how powerful we are (Sun Trine Pluto) and marvel at our current willingness to take risks and be a bit rebellious (Sun Trine Uranus).
Add the Moon at 3° Aries and you have a Kite formation. The Sun is at the tail, so what we are aware of allows us to navigate the way forward with some ease. The Moon and Neptune (and Saturn) are at the head of the Kite, so as we light our own fire, we say, “Me first,” in true Aries fashion. Hopefully you have a healthy respect for the unconscious and really get that it’s always and forever unknowable.
But learning how to read the unconscious in the room is necessary for any integrated approach to life. Whether you feel you know what’s rumbling below the surface, or just need to lie back and let this lunar cycle take you where it will without control or resistance, this is a real risk-reward moment.
Now both sides of Aries’ shadow need to be addressed. I am acquainted with more people who need to ramp up the fire described above, but the same need to trust the unconscious release applies to those who need to chill out. Aries is ruled by Mars, and Mars is at the 30th degree of Cancer. He will take the imprint of this Full Moon into Leo with him tomorrow night, but the map of the lunation has him poised in the sign where he feels most restrained. At the mastery degree, that constriction is at its peak.
Mars is in a Square with Chiron. Squares are about conflicts, obstacles, and two immovable perspectives fighting for supremacy. Here it’s between embodiment and the wounds that keep the body from playing with more magic here on Earth. Because of the hard geometry and the cardinal energy of Aries and Cancer, there may be some rage as an artifact of what’s rumbling below the surface. Thankfully, an Inconjunct with the North Node is the exit strategy out of rage and grief, so there is purpose in what may be the most potentially painful aspects of this Full Moon.
Mercury is Opposing Chiron, so our mind and perceptions are facing off with the Wounded Healer, ushering in lots of thoughts and conversations related to healing. And our emotional body is about to do something wild, as Venus is about to station at 8° of Scorpio, the death and rebirth sign ruled by Pluto. She won’t be moving for a while and will officially turn around on October 2nd, taking all of this Full Moon mojo into an unconscious process that will be transformative for us all over the next three months.
So stand in front of the mirror today and don’t flinch. Everything you see out there belongs to you, and the Aries Moon is handing you a match rather than an apology. Let the old wounds finish coming out. Let the rage have its say, then let the North Node walk it to the door. Take the risk that lights you up, because Venus is about to carry whatever you release here down into the deep, and you want to be generous about what you hand her. The fairest of them all is never the one asking the mirror. It’s the one who answers it. Have at it!
