The Full Moon in Scorpio hits at 4:48pm PDT, and we move through a lunation where the sign of death and rebirth, and the planet that rules it, Pluto, is in charge. All the forward moving energy of this season is driven by Aries, the initiator of the zodiac. We start the astrological new year when the Sun moves into Aries, and the Aries New Moon is always a powerful thrust forward into new possibilities. This is the lunar cycle that we are in, and while this Full Moon is not an eclipse, it is the culmination of a lunar cycle initiated by an eclipse. In this way, we are still in the wormhole of rapid transformation, and fated changes in direction, but in a way designed to initiate new action and movement.

The Sun is in Taurus now, so our conscious awareness is connected to the cash and prizes that life has to offer. Taurus is the sign where we invented money, luxury, sensual pleasure, and all the delights of what being in a body can offer. Grounded and stable, this fixed earth sign is where we land once Aries declares, I Am! This lunar cycle was kicked off by an Aries New Moon Total Solar Eclipse, and we were shot out of the proverbial cannon of movement forward. We are moving fast, but need to go faster, and that requires releasing dead weight, and a Full Moon in Scorpio is the perfect death/rebirth lunation to help us let go of old patterns that are no longer serving us.

Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, the planet we know as The Lord of the Underworld. This is the realm of secrets, things that are hidden, and material that we disown and push down because it is scary to look at. Scorpio is where we surrender to change and allow things to die their natural death; there may be a lot of endings generated by this lunar cycle. Pluto is in a T-Square with this Full Moon. Sun Square Pluto generates the conscious awareness of things we might not otherwise be able to see below the surface of our conscious awareness. But Moon Square Pluto is where the unconscious participates, and this turns this Full Moon from a standard moment of release to a process that is more like psychic surgery.

There is some help and assistance courtesy of a productive Sextile being held between the players in Taurus, and the folks in Pisces. You’d have to be living under a rock not to be aware of the power of Jupiter and Uranus coming together in Taurus this past Saturday. While it was not quite the amazing moment promised by pop astrologers on social media, it did indeed offer a thrust of huge possibility, sudden advancement, and new radical movement that could lead us to true abundance. Mars and Saturn are still close enough in Pisces to have our walk in life, our decisions, and even the projects we are moved to focus on right now, driven by a sense of responsibility, discipline, and making higher choices.

I hope you can see how these two energies working together can spell powerful movement into the future. Mars and Saturn in Pisces tells us if we stay steadfast and disciplined in the desires we have to express ourselves, we can chart our own course, based on knowing what we want, and moving out into the world and creating it, one step at a time. And then we have Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus giving us hope, promising us a better more expansive future, if and as we stay the course.

Then in between this two gatherings, we still have the forward-thinking sign of Aries hosting a party with Venus, Chiron, the North Node, and Mercury in his retrograde status. This tells us that we still have to do some healing in our hearts (Venus and Chiron Conjunction from Sunday), and there may be some delays, and work on perceptions that the Mercury Retrograde Conjunct the North Node is reflecting. But forward movement is what is promised in this season.

Mercury is stationing to go direct in two days, which means the mind is very cranky during this Full Moon. The fact that he is pretty much stock still in the sky and turned around means he is in what we call the storm cycle of the retrograde. From an energetic standpoint, this will further amplify the general intensity of the passage, but why that is is because the Full Moon opens the door to the unconscious, but so does Mercury retrograde. The capacity of this Full Moon to allow for releasing material from the unconscious is epic, and this spells more change, more endings, more transformation, and more general intensity for these couple of days.

Look to your chart if you know it well. The Scorpio house may be where direct change is taking place. But the Aries House will reflect new movement, and your Taurus house could be where the most possibility for expansion is brewing. But no matter how you slice it, the watchword of this lunation is surrender. Surrender to change, relax into endings, and do your best to not hold on too tight to things that are asking to be released.

The general energy of the next few days is going to be wildly amplified, for just as we move through this Full Moon, Mercury stations and goes direct on Thursday. Perhaps then, things will begin to ease up, but for today, we are strapped onto the operating table undergoing yet another layer of healing and release. It may be a painful time, but I assure you, it’s an alchemical moment, and worth the process. Have at it!
